Graymont’s Bedford Heritage Park Earns International Recognition for Sustainable Landscape and Planning Excellence

June 11, 2025, Richmond, British Columbia, Canada— Graymont is pleased to share that its Bedford Heritage Park project has been recognized on the world stage. After being chosen as one of the five finalists in the Sustainable Landscape/Planning Project category at the 2025 Architizer A+Awards, Bedford Heritage Park received the Popular Choice Award.

This dual recognition from industry experts and the public highlights the project’s exceptional appeal to professional and community audiences.

This prestigious award, presented to Lemay — an architecture and design firm and proud partner on the project — by one of the world’s most renowned design competitions in architecture, celebrates the collaborative vision that brought Bedford Heritage Park to life. Located in a picturesque municipality in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada, this project took shape over more than a decade, involving valuable input from local communities and support from key partners, including Lemay.

“We are proud of what we accomplished together and deeply grateful to the many individuals and organizations who contributed to the vision and success of Bedford Heritage Park,” said Stéphane Godin, President and CEO of Graymont. “A special thanks to Lemay, who accompanied the Graymont Project Team, the various municipalities, our local Graymont employees and the Citizens Forum to transform the vision into reality,” added Mr. Godin.

Inaugurated in June 2023 during Graymont’s 75th anniversary, Bedford Heritage Park is a testament to long-term thinking, responsible stewardship, and community collaboration. Designed to repurpose a significant volume of stone overburden by reshaping and capping it with earth and vegetation, the project enabled access to valuable reserves to support Graymont’s operations for decades while creating a lasting asset for the community.

Today, the 15-hectare park features three sculpted hills, a children’s water playground, an amphitheatre, a chalet with an exhibition space, and hiking trails, offering year-round access to nature in an urban setting. Looking ahead, plans are underway for an exciting real estate project that will introduce 30 new homes near the park.

The recognition by Architizer and the public emphasizes the project’s sustainable impact and the collaborative effort between design, industry, and local municipalities. This recognition underscores a shared commitment to innovative approaches that benefit the environment and those who live and work nearby.

The success of Bedford Heritage Park would not have been possible without the sustained support of the Town of Bedford, Bedford Township, and the Municipality of Stanbridge Station, along with the Citizens Forum and the dedication of Graymont employees who helped bring the vision to life.
