Graymont to restart its Charbon lime plant in Australia

Graymont announced today that it is restarting the Charbon lime plant, located approximately 160 kilometres north of Sydney in New South Wales, in response to increased market demand.

The Company plans to immediately restart some 70,000 tonnes of quicklime capacity and 50,000 tonnes of hydrated lime capacity at Charbon to meet increased market demand. The plant has some 10,000 tonnes and 5,000 tonnes of storage capacity for quicklime and hydrated lime respectively to ensure a reliable domestic supply of high-quality lime to customers in the region.

The resumption of operations at Charbon will create approximately 15 full-time jobs at the plant and a few more at the Excelsior quarry site, while generating significant indirect economic spinoffs and employment opportunities to the benefit of local businesses and the community.

Graymont said the decision to restart the idled facility reflects the Company’s continued confidence in the dynamism and significant growth potential of the Asia-Pacific region.  “Wherever Graymont operates, we aim to be the preferred supplier, employer, and partner of choice – and Asia-Pacific is certainly no exception in that respect,” observed Stéphane Godin, CEO of Graymont. “The restart of Charbon further demonstrates both our capacity and our willingness to invest in order to enhance our position as a global industry leader,” Mr. Godin added. “This is the first of a number of initiatives and investments you can expect to see going forward, as we continue to profitably grow the business in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Graymont is a global leader in lime and limestone solutions. Headquartered in Canada, Graymont serves markets throughout North America and Asia Pacific.
