April 6, 2006 — A team from Graymont met today with the Standard Practices Committee members from Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation and the RBHCA (Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association of Saskatchewan) to examine the use of hydrated lime in hot mix asphalt. As part of its mission, the Standard Practices Committee promotes changes and improvements in contracts, general and special provisions, and other specifications through dialogue with the department of highways or other officials as necessary. Graymont was invited to address the group at the Regina offices of the Saskatchewan Department of Highways & Transportation to coordinate with the RBHCA Spring Conference also being held in Regina.
Gerald Van Campen, Graymont’s Marketing Manager, spoke to the Committee on the many benefits of using hydrated lime in hot mix asphalt paving projects. Methods of adding hydrated lime were also discussed, with emphasis on the damp aggregate lime application method, the method successfully employed by Saskatchewan Highways. The important topic of order management and logistics was also addressed. Specifically, when using hydrated lime in a hot mix paving project, storage and scheduling of transportation require coordination and communication between the contractor and their supplier to ensure efficiency and cost control. Graymont is available to assist customers in planning for their project requirements. John Hubbard, Sales Representative and Grant Crosby, Sales and Transportation Coordinator, of Graymont Western Canada Inc. also participated in the forum.
