Our Story Begins
Graymont began in 1948 with the purchase of a single lime plant in Marbleton, Québec—Dominion Lime Limited. Though modest by today’s standards, it marked the beginning of an extraordinary investment. Understanding where we are today begins with honouring the history that shaped our path.

Graymont Acquires Marbleton
Graymont makes first lime acquisition with purchase of the Marbleton lime plant.
Marbleton Upgraded, Joliette Purchased
1981-1983 Graymont is reorganized and increases its exposure to the lime industry by building the Maertz shaft kiln at Marbleton and purchasing the Joliette lime plant.

Continental Acquisition Fuels Growth
1989-1990 The purchase of Continental Lime, with seven plants in Western Canada and Western U.S., sets Graymont on a path of focusing on the lime and limestone business.
Operational Shift Begins
The process of consolidation begins with the goal of Graymont becoming a centralized operating company.

Stake Acquired in Grupo Calidra
Graymont acquires an initial stake in Grupo Calidra, marking the beginning of a long-term cooperative partnership and our first foray in the lime business outside Canada and the United States.
Culture Becomes Our Foundation
The One Graymont Culture is introduced and becomes the foundation of how we successfully run our business.

Exit from Non-Lime Business
2014-2017 Graymont spins-off Montrose Property Holdings Ltd. to its shareholders and divests the Company's last non-lime businesses.
Graymont Expands to Asia Pacific
Graymont takes its first step into Asia Pacific with the acquisition of three lime plants and a limestone business in New Zealand.

Major Asia Pacific Expansion
Graymont becomes a leading player in Asia Pacific with the acquisition of Sibelco’s 14 lime and limestone plants in Australia, Malaysia and the Philippines. We were now a pure-play international lime and limestone company providing essential solutions.

Production Doubles After Major Upgrades
After significant refurbishing, upgrading, and installation of a coal-fired kiln, production doubles under Graymont’s management to:
• 70,000 tonnes of quicklime annually,
• 12,000 tonnes of hydrated lime annually,
• 30,000 tonnes of agricultural lime annually

The plant stabilizes production at 50,000–75,000 tonnes annually, providing steady employment.
Graymont Invests in Cleaner and Higher Production
Graymont invests $13.2 million to modernize the plant, transitioning to a new kiln system that significantly increases production and reduces emissions

Marbleton Becomes Top Producer in the East
Annual production rises to 140,000 tonnes of lime, making Marbleton the largest producer in eastern North America.
High Output Maintained Despite 2008 Challenges
Despite the economic crisis of 2008 and a spike in natural gas prices, the plant produces over 800 tonnes of lime a day.

$20 million Investment Powers Smart Automation
A $20-million investment modernizes the plant further, with predictive control systems enhancing automation and increasing efficiency.
Annual Quicklime Output hits 160,000 tonnes
Quicklime production levels at 160,000 tonnes annually.
