May 4, 2010, Salt Lake City — Graymont’s Genoa, Ohio plant recently welcomed Nick Ritter, a student from St. John’s Jesuit High School to their facility. The High School has a program which requires students in their graduating year to spend three weeks in the workforce to obtain hands-on learning experience in their area of future employment interest. Nick, who is interested in becoming a Chemical Engineer, chose the Genoa plant for one week of his project.
During his week at the plant, Nick learned about the lime production process and observed a number of potential roles for engineers at Graymont. Keith Hille, Gary Elliott, and Ed Sanford explained plant operations to him, while Dave Michalak discussed the multiple roles of plant/process engineers. He also spent a day in the lab with Ed Jensen learning about laboratory testing and technical support, and finally, Nick went with Shiaw Tseng and Mike Tate to lime applications in the Toledo area and learned about sales and marketing activities for engineers.
We wish Nick all the best as he graduates later this month from St. John’s and begins his formal engineering training in August 2010, at the University of Dayton, Ohio.
