Graymont Materials (US headquarters in Plattsburgh NY), was recently selected as the Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce “Business of the Year”. This award recognizes Graymont Materials’ participation, numerous financial and service contributions and overall commitment to the communities where they operate.

Graymont Materials provides a wide array of construction materials such as aggregates, sand and gravel, decorative stone, asphalt and ready-mix concrete to the northern New York area from their numerous quarries and plants.

In support of their local West Wendover, Nevada community, the Graymont Pilot Peak Plant recently donated the limestone fines needed to create the base for the new outdoor recreational venue the Leppy Hills Trails. The hard pack trails run for 5 miles north of the town, and have been designated for walking, biking and other non motorized activities. The Trails wind through the desert providing beautiful views of the hills, cacti and wildflowers.

Genoa, Ohio – Graymont is proud to announce that on March 19, Graymont’s Genoa Plant, Graymont Dolime Inc., was awarded the Ottawa County Improvement Corporation’s (OCIC) prestigious “Business of the Year” award at the 2008 Business and Industry Awards Dinner. Graymont Dolime won in the business category of companies in the county with 31-65 employees (Graymont Dolime currently employs 61).

Joliette — André Lauzon, Manager of Graymont’s Joliette plant, today informed his employees, their representing union, as well as Graymont’s suppliers of the company’s decision to withdraw from the ready mix concrete stone market. The company’s customers were also informed of the decision which was made to preserve declining chemical-grade limestone reserves, and will lead to the layoff of 20 to 30 employees for periods of 12-16 weeks per year.

Graymont Signs Agreement to Acquire Controlling Interest in Duluth-Superior Company

Salt Lake CityUtah -- Graymont, one of the leading producers of lime and limestone products in North America, has acquired a controlling interest in the Cutler-Magner Company, Graymont President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Dodge announced today.

Tacoma - For the second year now, Graymont Tacoma has hosted a tour of the plant by 7th grade science students from Whatcom Hills Waldorf School in Bellingham, WA. This year, 20 students, their teacher and 3 chaperones were shown a Power Point presentation by Rob Freeman that explained the uses of lime and limestone in many different industries today, and specifically, how it is used at the Tacoma plant in the production of PCC. Students also took a tour of the facility, observed demonstrations in the lab, and were treated to a box lunch.

Townsend - On October 5, Graymont’s Indian Creek Plant held a special celebration to note their achievement of reaching 4 years without a lost time accident.  Employees and their spouses were treated to a catered “pitch-fork fondue” steak dinner – a specialty of a local catering service. Twelve steaks at a time are cooked fondue style in extremely hot suet for just three minutes while being held on pitchforks – with incredibly tasty results!

Faulkner - On September 22, Graymont’s Faulkner Plant in Faulkner, Manitoba held an Open House for the community and the families of employees.

Genoa, Ohio - For the last two years in September, the community of Genoa, Ohio has put on the Genoa Street Fair with the Graymont Genoa Plant as an enthusiastic participating business.  Graymont set up a booth that entertained and educated the crowd with dramatic demonstrations of quicklime being slaked, and samples of the various products produced at the plant. With over 1000 people stopping by, you can tell that the Graymont booth was very popular!
