Faulkner, Manitoba - Graymont is proud to announce that the Faulkner Plant has achieved seven years without a lost time incident.

Some of the factors that have contributed to this safety achievement include the following:

Havelock, NB – Graymont’s Havelock plant made significant financial contributions towards a project to install sidewalks (sidestrips) in the community of Havelock. Plant manager Andre Vanagten is proud to announce that after seven years the project is now complete.

Boucherville – The situation for the Peregrine Falcon is getting better after the species faced extinction in North America. Since the 1970’s severe restrictions on the use of DDT as well as the establishment of captive breeding and reintroduction programs have contributed greatly to the species’ recovery.

Salt Lake City – On Saturday, September 12, 2009, a ribbon cutting ceremony marked the day that Babb Creek in Pennsylvania was officially removed from the Environmental Protection Agency's "Impaired Stream List".

The stream had become polluted from acid mine drainage about twenty years ago which enraged a local fisherman and environmentalist, who then pioneered the effort to clean up the watershed (full story). About $10 million dollars from Growing Green funds, the coal mining industry and various organizations and agencies later, the stream has now been restored.

Exshaw – The Community Relationship Committee (GCRC) at Graymont’s Exshaw plant in Alberta received an important Volunteer Recognition Award from the Municipal District of Bighorn on September 11, 2009.  Each year the Municipal District of Bighorn holds a recognition and thank you dinner in honor of all the different groups and individuals in the surrounding communities that contribute and help out within the district.

On April 26, 2009, Graymont’s Havelock Plant in Eastern Canada accomplished a new safety record – four years accident free. On May 8, the plant celebrated this event with a barbeque. Dave Holmes, co-chair of the safety committee, explained the relevance of this achievement “being able to go home safe”, and asked everyone for a moment of silence to remember Michel Lemaire. Graymont would like to thank plant manager André Van Agten and his team for their commitment to safety.

PRESS RELEASE - For immediate publication - It is with deep regret that Allen Walsh, Bedford‘s Graymont plant manager, confirms the death of an employee, Mr. Michel Lemaire, aged 59, who was involved in a work-related accident. The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. yesterday at the Bedford plant site.

In a lime industry first, Graymont’s Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania plant started producing power today from their new waste heat recovery and power generation system.  This system uses waste heat from the new lime kiln at the Pleasant Gap facility to produce electricity.

Roland Charest, a production employee who has worked at the Graymont Joliette plant for the past 21 years, was asked by Graymont in 2004 to take a First Aid course.  Little did he know that this training would help him save a man’s life.
