Portland, October 3, 2007 - Located in the Portland, Oregon area, Graymont’s St. Helens PCC Plant has distinguished itself as another of Graymont’s facilities that has achieved a notable Safety milestone – over three years of no lost time incidents. Moo Han, Plant Supervisor, attributes his plant’s success with safety to many factors. Primarily, the employees really care about keeping safe, and take an active role in keeping on top of their environment. Since there are a small number of employees at St. Helens, it is possible to change the Safety Rep position on a quarterly basis – giving everyone a chance to be responsible for the committee. The St. Helens team conducts monthly safety meetings, and completes safety inspections on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Moo believes the most important element in the safety culture at St. Helens is the excellent communication exchange that takes place during shift changes.
Shown here on September 23, the occasion of the 2007 CEO Plant Safety Tour, is the St. Helens crew with Bill Dodge, President & CEO, who was traveling with Joe O’Hara, guest speaker from Pavilion Plant, Jason Ellis, Corporate Safety Engineer, and Terry Thompson, Safety Coordinator (not shown).
Graymont takes a long term view of its business and the lime industry and is looking forward to continuing its work in Portland, Oregon, and in so doing, improving our environment, contributing to the community as a good neighbor and adding value as a responsible business partner.
