Indefinite suspension of lime production at the Havelock plant

PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Havelock - The Director of Production for Graymont Eastern Canada, Pierre Chassat, today informed the employees, the Union representative and the New-Brunswick Minister of Labour’s office of the decision to indefinitely suspend quicklime production at the Havelock Plant at the end of November 2010.

Mr. Chassat said: "The market demand for quicklime products in the Maritimes has significantly declined over the last two years and is expected to remain low which makes it uneconomical to continue operating the kiln. Quicklime customers will be assured of reliable, high quality supply from our other production facilities while hydrated lime customers will still be serviced from Havelock. The plant will continue to produce and sell agricultural lime, aggregate and pulverized limestone products”.

Mr. Mario Couture, Director of Human Resources for Graymont Canada said that "approximately 15 employees will be laid off permanently by December 10, 2010. Employment transition support will be offered to affected employees”.
